Frequently asked questions

Can someone request my records on my behalf?+

Yes. An immigration lawyer, RCIC, or other designated representative can request records for you with a properly signed consent form (IMM 5744). MyGCMS pre-fills the form for you; you print it, sign and date it in blue ink, and upload a high-quality colour scan. Representatives also provide their ID or RCIC number.

Why are GCMS notes useful after a refusal?+

They are one of the most valuable documents you can obtain after a refusal. Officer notes reveal the specific concerns that drove the decision — often completely different from the generic language in the refusal letter — giving you a clear roadmap for a reapplication or appeal.

When do I need CBSA Notes specifically?+

Request CBSA Notes if your issue involves a border crossing, secondary examination, detention, removal order, inadmissibility finding, or any interaction with CBSA officers. For most visa and PR matters, GCMS Notes are the right record. Our wizard helps you identify which applies.

What are Complete IRCC Records and when do I need them?+

A full file disclosure includes everything IRCC holds about you: all applications, correspondence, and internal documents. This is typically needed for Federal Court applications, complex multi-application histories, and ministerial-level interventions. Our wizard guides you through the more detailed request.

Do I need a separate request per application?+

Each application typically requires a separate GCMS request. A Complete IRCC Records request may cover multiple files. Your dashboard lets you manage all your requests in one place.

Is my data safe?+

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and stored on Canadian servers. We use your information solely to prepare and submit your ATIP request to IRCC or CBSA, never for any other purpose.

What does it cost?+

IRCC charges a $5 CAD government fee per Access to Information request. Privacy Act requests (including CBSA Notes) carry no government fee. Our service fee covers form preparation, compliant submission, and status tracking. Professional and bulk pricing is available for consultants and lawyers.
